Aransas Pass

Grape:

American White Merlot

Grapes sourced from:

Lodi, California

Finish:

Sweet;  infused with watermelon

The Story:

Constructed in 1855 at Aransas Pass, the second oldest lighthouse on the Texas coast marked the Lydia Ann Channel to Aransas and Corpus Christi Bays.  In an attempt to disrupt federal efforts to capture southern blockade runners during the Civil War, Confederate troops buried and later lost the lens, and blew the top off the lighthouse in trying to destroy it.

Decommissioned in 1952, the Lydia Ann was restored for private use.  This watermelon white Merlot wine honors the oldest surviving structure in the Aransas Pass-Corpus Christi area and the Gulf Coast's colorful maritime Heritage.
