The Story:
Originally intended to be designated "Thank God," until the name was rejected by the United States Postal Department, Blessing was established along a railroad right-of-way on the Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railway on land owned by Jonathan Edwards Pierce. By 1914, Blessing had 500 inhabitants, two churches, a bank, a hotel, a telephone connection, and a weekly newspaper.
Built by Pierce to provide lodging for land seekers and traveling salesmen, the Mission Revival style building has been a community gathering place since it opened in 1907.
