The Story:
Founded after the 1840 Comanche raid that destroyed Linnville, Lavaca became the county seat when Calhoun County was formed in 1846 from parts of Victoria, Jackson, and Matagorda counties. While the port of Indianola claimed the title at least twice, Port Lavaca endured both hurricanes and Union occupations to emerge as a center for commerce and shipping. This robust Lenoir dessert wine honors this Texas port and its maritime traditions with its own deep Texas roots.
