Rio Farms

Monte Alto, Texas

Sweet

The Story:

In the 1850's, four French nuns traveled to the Republic of Texas to fulfill their founders' mission through teaching and serving in this wild, unsettled country.  Founding their school and convent in Brownsville, they expanded north to Victoria in 1866 where their work continues today.

Bringing cuttings with them from France, they grew grapes at the Brownsville convent and also at Nazareth Convent in Victoria.  Almost lost in 1970 when the convent in Brownsville was torn down, these rare grapes grow solely at Monte Alto's Rio Farms today.  This wine honors the mission and enduring footprints of these brave women.
