The Story:
While Mustang Creek and Mustang Settlement were home to early Jackson County settlers along the Navidad River, no one knows for sure that they were named for the many wild mustang horses that roamed the Gulf Coast prairies with both cows and buffalo. The hardy native mustang grapes that also grow wild in the region thrive at Lavaca Bluffs Vineyards overlooking the Lavaca River south of old Texana and Ganado. This traditional Texas wine now honors local history as a bold port wine.
